Tropic Cascade™ Lomandra, part of the Ozbreed range of hardy Australian grasses, is a beautifully weeping Lomandra variety known for its lush form, fragrant yellow male flowers, and outstanding adaptability in both residential and commercial landscape settings. With a graceful, cascading habit and a compact form, this plant adds both texture and movement to garden designs, while requiring minimal long-term maintenance.
Reaching up to 800mm high and wide, Tropic Cascade™ retains a tidy, dense shape—especially when cut back every 3–4 years, which helps maintain a more compact profile. Its non-seeding male flowers provide seasonal fragrance without the risk of unwanted spread, keeping garden beds clean and manageable.
Designed for performance, Tropic Cascade™ Lomandra is particularly resilient in tough conditions. It tolerates drought, humidity, and periods of wet feet, and has proven cold-hardy down to -4°C. It performs best in moist, well-mulched soil, and is suitable for a wide range of soil types, including those in coastal or seasonally inundated areas (although not for spots with permanent standing water over 5cm).
This variety is also highly functional—it has been shown to improve erosion control by strengthening soil by up to 159%, making it an excellent option for slopes, swales, and areas prone to surface runoff. For best performance in nutrient-poor soils, it’s recommended to use a quality 8–9 month slow-release fertiliser at planting.
Tropic Cascade™ is ideal for mass plantings, specimen features, and large-scale landscape applications, with a recommended planting density of 2–6 plants per m² or 1.5–3 plants per linear metre. Regular watering is needed during establishment (8–13 weeks), with occasional watering in dry inland regions, Western Australia, or South Australia.
With its elegant form, durability, and functional benefits, Ozbreed’s Tropic Cascade™ Lomandra is a versatile and reliable choice for creating dynamic, low-maintenance grassy landscapes.
